Midfielder likely to be part of Reading's 25-man squad

Brian McDermott expects veteran midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson to sign a new contract and be part of Reading's 25-man squad this season. Gunnarsson has made over 160 appearances for the Royals since joining from Watford in 2005, but featured only five times last season as the club secured a return to the Premier League. However, the 36-year-old was offered a new deal at the Madejski Stadium and McDermott feels that Gunnarsson still has a role to play. "He will definitely get something at this football club," said the Reading manager. "My gut feeling is that he will be in the 25-man squad too. If you look at the numbers, right now we're up to 23. "Players like Sean Morrison, Jordan Obita and Karl Sheppard don't count among that as they're under 21 - so there is a strong chance Bryn will be in."
