Double Dutch defeat for Pools

Cooper: Hard thinking ahead

Hartlepool were beaten 3-0 by Almere City on Wednesday in the final friendly of their Dutch tour ahead of the upcoming season.

The result means that Neale Cooper's men return to the North East on the back of two losses, although Wednesday's scoreline did flatter their opponents.

Pools fell behind when Thijs Sluijter headed home at the far post late in the first half.

Rihairo Meulens broke clear to add a second after half-time and a classy finish from Jerson Ribeiro wrapped things up for the hosts.

Pools came closest to a reply when Andy Monkhouse volleyed wide from a narrow angle late in the game.
