Stale Solbakken says he will get to know his squad before deciding who to appoint as captain for the new season.
The Wolves boss insists he will not be rushed into a decision, despite starting their pre-season programme on Saturday week.
Roger Johnson held the armband under Terry Connor, while Karl Henry and Stephen Ward also led the team out on a few occasions.
But Solbakken may opt for a new man to lead the side into their promotion challenge.
Wait
The Norwegian told Wolves' official website: "I want to wait a little bit to see which direction we're going.
"It's important to be together with the group for a while before making that decision.
"No matter what happens, I can promise it won't be as controversial as last year when [as manager of Cologne] I took it from [Lukas] Podolski. The whole of Germany was after me for a few weeks after that."
Return
Solbakken can also be upbeat about the return of some key players. Jamie O'Hara is set to return to full training after a niggling groin injury, while long-term absentees Wayne Hennessey and Steven Mouyokolo are also making good progress.
Hennessey is hoping to return from his cruciate ligament injury in November, while defender Mouyokolo is set to make his comeback in September.
