Carlisle defender Peter Murphy is excited about the season ahead after signing his new contract at Brunton Park.

The 31-year-old, who put pen to paper on a one-year deal on Wednesday with the option of a further 12 months, is embarking on his testimonial season and expects the Cumbrians to make another big impression in League One. "There were a couple of us in the same situation [Frank Simek and James Berrett] where I think we'd agreed our contracts, but the difficulty was actually getting into a position to put pen-to-paper. It's done now though so we can all concentrate on having a good season. "It's my testimonial year but I think I'd want to stay even if it wasn't. If you look at what we did last season we weren't too far away and we've made a couple of great signings already this summer. "It looks good going forward but it's a long season and we just have to make sure we get off to the best start we can so we can kick on from there." Carlisle have signed defender Mike Edwards from Notts County and striker Danny Cadamarteri from Huddersfield during the close season.
