Leon Best admits he jumped at the chance of joining Blackburn Rovers so he could work with Steve Kean again.

The 25-year-old striker signed a four-year deal at Ewood Park on Monday after a £3m switch from last season's Premier League surprise package Newcastle to join his former Coventry City assistant boss.

And Best aims to be playing against his old team-mates next year by getting relegated Rovers back into the top-flight at the first attempt.

"I'm delighted," Best told the club's official website. "It is a good thing for me and a new start to my career coming here.

"I've been with Steve Kean before so I know what he's about, he's shown me a lot of loyalty and he's come in for me and I'm showing some back.

"I want to come here and work with him and the new players and hopefully we'll go straight back up.

"Blackburn is a massive club, a lot of big clubs have come into the Championship recently and gone back up so we've got to look at doing the same.

"We've a good manager, a good structure here, we've kept a lot of the good players here so now it is a matter of going back up and signing a few more.
