UAE-based outfit Al Shabab claim to be in talks with Michael Owen's management team regarding a move to the Middle East.
Former England international Owen is currently available as a free agent following his release by Manchester United.
He has hinted that he would be willing to discuss a deal with interested parties from around the world, having previously taken in a spell with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The 32-year-old's representatives are now said to be meeting with Al Shabab, who claim a deal could be done 'soon'.
They announced via Twitter: "Michael Owen has been identified as a candidate to play for Shabab next season and we are in negotiations with his management team.
"The player's agent is in Dubai to close the deal."
A spokesman for the club, who have booked their place in next season's AFC Champions League, added: "We are in talks with the player and his agent, but no agreement has yet been reached between the parties.
"Things should become clear soon."
