Wolves striker makes Olympic shortlist

Steven Fletcher has been named on the 35-man shortlist for Great Britain's Olympic squad as Stuart Pearce continues to narrow down his selection. Pearce will name his final squad of 18 in the first week of July, but only three of that number can be over 23. That leaves 25-year-old Fletcher fighting for an over-age place, and will reportedly compete with the likes of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs. The chosen 18 will meet up in the first week of July in preparation for their opening game at Old Trafford on July 26th, where they will become the first men to compete for Great Britain in the Olympic football tournament since 1960. Team GB then move on to Wembley to face the UAE three days later, before their final group game at the Millennium Stadium on August 1st. If they progress they will face one of the qualifiers from Group B which includes Mexico, South Korea, Gabon and Switzerland.
