Saints boss promises to enjoy opener

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins is excited at the prospect of kicking off the 2012/13 season with a trip to champions Manchester City. The Saints finished as Championship runners-up to Reading last season to secure promotion back to the Premier League after a period in the wilderness. The computer could have handed them an easier game to get to grips with life in the top flight, but Adkins is thrilled at the prospect of the glamour game.

Great

"It's great for us, absolutely," he told the club's official website. "It's been a long summer already and we've been working very hard behind the scenes. Now we've got the fixtures, the reality is here and we can all look forward to it. "Man City away is our first game, and Man United, Wigan, Everton, Arsenal great fixtures aren't they?"
Positive
City possess one of the most fearsome attacking lines in Europe and could make it an unpleasant start to Premier League life for the South Coast side. But Adkins insists his side will be positive. He added: "We go to Manchester City and I don't think we'll be expected to win up there so it's all to gain, isn't it? We'll go and be positive."
