Versatile defender signs new contract for Nerazzurri

Cristian Chivu has penned a new three-year deal with Serie A giants Inter Milan, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2015. The versatile Romanian defender has been with the San Siro club since signing from Roma in 2007. Head coach Andrea Stramaccioni and the club's sporting director Marco Branca had been keen on offering the 31-year-old a new contract. And the player's agent has confirmed that he has accepted the Nerazzurri's offer of a new deal. "He has just extended the contract with Inter for another three years," Gigi Becali told Radio Mana Mana. "There are no clauses in the contract about which position Chivu will play, but Stramaccioni and Branca have assured me that he will mostly play at centre-back, except in emergency cases, where he would play at left-back."
