Lewington eyes promotion push

MK Dons captain Dean Lewington wants to use the heartbreak of last year's play-off defeat to Huddersfield as motivation to get promoted.

The Dons were beaten 3-2 on aggregate by the Terriers in their second successive semi-final failure after losing at the same stage to Peterborough in 2011. Lewington, 28, says they need to use the disappointment to ensure they do not feel it again. "It certainly is fuel for the start of the season. I think in pre-season it will still be in people's minds from last year and while it is still there you will use it," the left-back told the club's official website. "When the season starts again you try and put it behind you and move on. When we lost to Peterborough we felt really disappointed and as though we had unfinished business. This time we gave it a go, went out the right way and finished on a high if that's possible, but it was a good performance that gives everyone hope for the next year. "From a negative experience, they say you always come back stronger. Hopefully this will be the case but obviously the people that have been through it will be better again this season and hopefully we can learn from the season as a whole, not just the play-offs."
