Authorities to examine incidents at two Euro 2012 matches

UEFA has confirmed it is to investigate allegations of racist chanting during the Spain v Italy and Russia v Czech Republic matches at Euro 2012. Media reports suggested that Italy striker Mario Balotelli was subjected to racist chanting during the match with Spain in Gdansk on Sunday. Two days previously, Czech Republic full-back Theodor Gebre Selassie revealed he had 'noticed' racist chants directed at him during the game against Russia in Wroclaw. No official complaint has been made to UEFA by either the Italy or Czech Republic football associations. However, subsequent information has prompted UEFA to launch a formal investigation into both incidents. "Following the provision of new independent information today, regarding the two cases of alleged racist chanting in the Spain-Italy and Russia-Czech Republic matches, UEFA is now conducting further investigations," read a UEFA statement.

No disciplinary proceedings

"There are, however, no disciplinary proceedings opened at this moment in time." Meanwhile, UEFA has confirmed disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the Croatian Football Association for the behaviour of their fans against Ireland on Sunday. Supporters celebrated their second goal by letting off flares and firecrackers while a fan in a Croatia shirt ran onto the pitch in order to celebrate with national team coach Slaven Bilic. UEFA confirmed Croatia have been charged with the setting off and throwing of fireworks and missiles, and the invasion of the pitch.
