Brazilian defender claims he has outgrown Dutch club

FC Twente defender Douglas wants to leave Holland this summer and admits Newcastle are among the interested parties. The 24-year-old Brazilian has been with Twente since moving from his homeland as a teenager in 2007 but appears to have decided his future lies elsewhere. While Steve McClaren's Twente side did fade towards the end of the season, missing out on UEFA Champions League football, that doesn't seem to have been a factor. Douglas's main motivation is to leave Dutch football in search of a tougher league and that has seen him reject the advances of Eredivisie champions Ajax. "I have personally been in touch with Ajax and immediately said that I'm not interested," he told NuSport. "I want to go abroad as I have outgrown the league. "I noticed this year that I am sometimes a little too easy going down, then you make mistakes. I want to be tested every week.

Next step

"I have spent five years [at Twente] and have done my best for the club. "I have won the title, the cup - it's time for a next step. "Five clubs are interested and there's a bigger club than Newcastle. I cannot still say anything about it, but I hope soon to have my new club." Chelsea and Tottenham are also reported to have shown an interest in Douglas.
