Defender says he turned down 'good offers' from other clubs

John McCombe says he is happy to stay at Port Vale after receiving offers from other clubs and is hoping there are 'good times ahead'. The defender is out of contract at Vale Park, but he is ready to pledge his future to the League Two side by signing a new two-year deal. He has made over 170 appearances for Vale since joining from Hereford United in 2008 and the 27-year-old had no qualms in rejecting rival interest in order to stick with Micky Adams' men. "There has been quite a bit of interest and I have had a few good offers, but I told the gaffer quite early on that I wanted to stay," McCombe told The Sentinel. "I'm really happy at Vale and I want to carry on here, do well and progress my career with the club. I want to play in a higher division, but I want to do that with the Vale. "I've been here a long time now and I've loved all - well almost all - of my time. There have been a few ups and downs along the way, but hopefully there are now some good times ahead."
