Cicinho has confirmed he is leaving Roma this summer to return to his native Brazil, but has ruled out a deal with his former club Sao Paulo.
The 31-year-old's contract at Stadio Olimpico expires at the end of the month and he made just two Serie A appearances for Roma in 2011/12.
He has struggled to make an impact during his time with Roma and the full-back's agent is now trying to finalise a deal with an unnamed Brazilian club.
"I will return to play my football in Brazil, but not with Sao Paulo," Cicinho said to Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I have spoken with my agent and he is in advanced talks with a club from the south of the country."
Cicinho won the FIFA Club World Cup with Sao Paulo in 2005 before joining Real Madrid the following year, and he spent just a season at the Santiago Bernabeu prior to heading for Roma.
He had a loan spell back at Sao Paulo and a stint in Spain with Villarreal before returning to the Italian capital last summer.
