Former Barnet striker Izale McLeod hopes the goals he scores next season will help his new club gain promotion rather than avoid relegation.

The 27-year-old notched 22 times for the Bees last season, finishing joint top scorer in League Two.

But Barnet only narrowly avoided slipping out of the Football League on the final day of the season and ex-Charlton man McLeod is keen to join a club who have high ambitions.

He told Sky Sports: "I'm definitely looking forward to a new challenge and I'm already bored at home, so I can't wait for pre-season to start.

"I've always been confident in my own ability, but I've played in League Two for two seasons now and in the league above for MK Dons and Charlton, scoring goals at all three clubs.

New challenge

"So, I know that I can score goals in both divisions and I'm really looking forward to a new challenge, wherever that may be, because I'm not sure at the minute.

"My agent's phone has been quite busy so far and I presume that it will continue to get even busier as the summer goes on, so I'm just kicking back and weighing up all the options at the moment.

"I just feel really good fitness-wise and, at 27, I've got the benefit of experience now and I'm at a really good place at the minute.

"I'm just really looking forward to getting back to pre-season training and putting on some football boots again.

"I'm just looking for a new challenge and hoping to find a club that is looking to win things."
