Sky Sports sources understand Graeme Jones' talks with Swansea over the manager's job have broken down.
Jones had been favourite to become Swansea's new manager, replacing Brendan Rodgers who became the new Liverpool boss on Friday.
The Swans had been given permission to speak to the Wigan assistant manager earlier this week.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins was keen to bring Jones back to the club where he spent two years as an assistant from 2007 to 2009.
The 42-year-old is the only man who has yet been interviewed for the job.
But it is understood that talks have broken down between the two parties.
