Burton boss Gary Rowett admits that Kevin Summerfield's knowledge of Robbie Weir played a key role in the player's signing.
Rowett, who recently appointed Summerfield as his assistant at Albion, made Weir his first signing since he was handed the manager's job on a permanent basis this month.
Midfielder Weir was released by Tranmere at the end of last season and played under former Rovers coach Summerfield at Prenton Park.
"I have obviously seen the lad play on several occasions, firstly when he was on loan at York City, and it also helps that Kevin was coaching him last season and has something of an inside track on him," said Rowett.
"Kevin's knowledge of him also gives us the insight we need into the character of the lad and it also makes it bit easier for Robbie to settle in having someone like Kevin that he has worked with before.
"We have brought him down here and shown him around and he has clearly been impressed with what we are trying to do at this club and our ambitions for where we want to take this team."
