Crewe hero Nick Powell admits he 'just whacked it' when asked about the wonder goal that inspired his side's League Two play-off final victory over Cheltenham.
The highly-rated forward produced a superb turn and shot after 15 minutes at Wembley to pave the way for the Alex's win, with Byron Moore adding another late on.
The victory means Crewe will ply their trade in League One next season and 18-year-old midfielder Powell was thrilled to contribute to the triumph.
He told Sky Sports: "If I'm honest I just whacked it, there was nothing in that.
"I knew the guy was away to my left so I thought, I've got this space, I might as well have a go."
Powell's efforts for Crewe this season have reportedly turned heads in the Premier League but the teenager insists he is looking no further ahead than celebrating with his team.
He added: "I just want to enjoy a night with the boys and celebrate. My future is whatever it is, I'm not concentrating on it, I'm looking forward to the celebrations."
Ashley Westwood is one of several senior players to have come through the youth ranks at Crewe and believes that has contributed to their success.
"All the lads are together, we've got a great team spirit," he said.
"We've come through the academy together and I think that's gotten us here in the end.
"We're all local lads who know how much it means to the club."
