Defender Gael Givet could quit relegated Blackburn, unless the club allow him to renegotiate his contract.

The 30-year-old's current deal stipulates that a drop into the Championship would automatically bring about a 50 per cent pay cut.

Givet has admitted he would be willing to stay put at Ewood Park next season and help them bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

However, his representative Nathou Busi claims the Frenchman would not contemplate staying at Rovers should his current deal not be renegotiated.

Discussions

"Gael's first choice is to stay at Blackburn Rovers but only if the situation can be sorted," Busi told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"We will have discussions with the club because Gael cannot continue in this situation. We hope something can get sorted.

"Gael very much likes Blackburn Rovers. He likes the fans and wants to stay if the contract can get sorted.

"He would want other things sorted at the club as well because no-one knows what is happening. But he would like to stay if he can."
