Murphy to bring back the glory

Local boy Luke Murphy is in a confident mood ahead of the play-off final and hopes to bring the good times back to Crewe next season.

The 22-year-old midfielder, a product of the Railwaymen's famed youth system, is set to return to Steve Davis' squad for Sunday's League Two play-off final against Cheltenham. A minor groin tear ruled Murphy out for the second leg of Alex's semi-final triumph over Southend last week - and he is eyeing an end to three seasons in the fourth tier for a club that plied its trade in the Championship six years ago. "Everyone at the club and the fans haven't had much to cheer about over the past few years and this is something that they'll enjoy and we all deserve," said Murphy. "I've grown up at Crewe since I was seven so I've seen all the changes through the years and we're back to, hopefully, the good days. "I don't think I've ever been this popular - all my friends haven't stopped ringing me."
