Johnson and Welbeck sit out Wednesday session

Glen Johnson and Danny Welbeck sat out England's first training session under new manager Roy Hodgson at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. Liverpool full-back Johnson and Manchester United striker Welbeck were the only players not involved as the squad were put through their paces for the first time by the new man at the helm. The duo were not involved with the rest of the players as a precaution, with another training session scheduled at Manchester City's home ground on Thursday morning. Hodgson's first game in charge comes against Norway in Oslo on Saturday, prior to the Euro 2012 campaign where they will tackle France, Sweden and Ukraine in Group D. Johnson's fellow Reds defender, Martin Kelly, was brought into the squad as additional cover for the weekend friendly but will then return to Anfield.

Parker

Scott Parker took part in training, with the Tottenham midfielder having been troubled by an Achilles problem during the latter part of the domestic season. He was able to participate after the squad met up to launch preparations for Euro 2012, although the extent of his involvement is not being revealed at this juncture. Hodgson has to decide whether he thinks Parker is fit enough to play a full part in Poland and Ukraine by 29th May - the final UEFA deadline for squads to be announced. The Chelsea contingent of John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Gary Cahill - plus standby player Daniel Sturridge - have been given extra time off after the club's UEFA Champions League heroics. They will not report for duty until next Tuesday when England will be relocated in their accustomed Hertfordshire base ahead of the home clash with Belgium at Wembley on 2nd June.
