Schweinsteiger issues apology

'Paralysed' Bayern ace did not intentionally snub president

Bastian Schweinsteiger: Was left paralysed following the penalty shoot-out defeat to Chelsea

Bastian Schweinsteiger has apologised after appearing to snub Germany's president in the wake of Bayern Munich's heart-breaking UEFA Champions League defeat.

The Bayern ace missed in the penalty shoot-out as Chelsea won 4-3 on spot-kicks to lift the trophy.

Schweinsteiger insists he did not see German president Joachim Gauck offer his hand as the team collected their medals.

He told the club's official website: "It's a misunderstanding.

Great disappointment

"I was desperate, disappointed, as if I was paralysed. I didn't see the president's hand."
