Hitzlsperger, Salihamidzic and Chris to leave Bundesliga club

Thomas Hitzlsperger, Hasan Salihamidzic and Chris will leave Wolfsburg this summer, after they had their contracts terminated by mutual consent. Former Bayern Munich striker Salihamidzic and Brazilian defender Chris would have been out of contract before the start of next season, whilst Hitzlsperger still had a year of his deal to run. The trio have been at the club for less than a year, but have failed to establish themselves in the side. Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath said: "We have decided together that we will part company. With Brazzo (Salihamidzic) and Chris, both players wanted a fresh challenge." Meanwhile, former Aston Villa midfielder Hitzlsperger asked for his contract to be ended a year early, after he chose to focus on his personal rehabilitation.

Injury

"It is very regrettable Thomas has stumbled from one injury to another and, as a result, has been unable to help us this season," Magath continued. "I have always respected and rated him as a flawless professional both on and off the field." Hitzlsperger was restricted to only a handful of appearances, and he wants to make sure he is fully fit before deciding his next move. He said: "After serious consideration, I have reached the conclusion that a complete recovery is my current priority. "I cannot see right now whether I would be able to play a decisive role in Wolfsburg reaching its goals next season so the termination of my contract is a fair solution for both sides. "I would like to thank Felix Magath for the faith he has shown in me from the bottom of my heart."
