Johnny Russell has been handed a first Scotland call-up for the friendly against the USA later this month.
The 22-year-old Dundee United forward has enjoyed an impressive season for the Tangerines, scoring 14 goals for the club and has been rewarded by his inclusion in Craig Levein's squad.
But the Scotland boss insists Russell is there for the experience of being around the squad and is unlikely to feature in the match.
Levein said: "If you have a look back through the squads since I took over, I have made a conscious effort to try to include players who are doing well, or have done well, with the Under 21s squad.
"I felt with the season that Johnny has had that he deserves the opportunity this time around.
"It is more for his experience than anything else. It would be unlikely that he would play a part in the match."
There is also a recall for Wigan's Shaun Maloney after finishing the Premier League campaign strongly.
The 29-year-old midfielder scored a winner against Manchester United last month and played a key role in the Latics' stunning survival effort after returning to full fitness.
Maloney has not been capped since November 2010 but Levein has been impressed by his recent displays.
"Shaun Maloney is on fire just now," he added. "It is no coincidence that the upturn in the fortunes of Wigan coincide with him coming back in the team.
"Shaun, James McArthur and Gary Caldwell, in the Wigan games I've seen recently, have almost always been their best players.
"Those three are bang on form and showing great fighting qualities and we will need that in the United States."
Scotland face Jurgen Klinsmann's USA team in Florida on Saturday May 26th at EverBank Field, the home of NFL side Jacksonville Jaguars.
