Lambert praises relentless Canaries

Paul Lambert: The Norwich manager was proud of his side's performance

Paul Lambert praised Norwich City's display as they made light work of Aston Villa in a comfortable 2-0 victory at Carrow Road.

First-half goals from Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson proved enough for the Canaries to win for the first time in five games, and Lambert's team end the season in 12th place.

City completed a successful first season back in the Premier League and the Scot could not speak more highly of his side who have stayed clear of danger all season.

He told Sky Sports: "I thought they were fantastic. I thought they just carried on from the Arsenal game. I thought we were relentless and some of the football we played was very good and I thought we deserved to win the game.

"The crowd have been absolutely fantastic for the past three years and the players have given a good account of themselves this season.

"It's been an absolutely phenomenal season for us - not just a good season, but to play the way we have has been a credit to the team."

Asked to sum up the season as a whole, the Scot said: "Well, the past three years has been a huge success story. It's been a huge rise for the football club (from League One) and I'm delighted for the fans."
