Skipper on road to recovery ahead of next season

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful Nemanja Vidic will be fit for the start of next season. The United skipper has been sidelined since December after suffering a serious knee injury in the UEFA Champions League defeat to Basel. The 30-year-old is continuing his road to recovery, but will not be involved in United's pre-season tour of Asia, South Africa and Norway this summer. Ferguson admits it has been tough for Vidic working on his rehabilitation on his own, but he hopes to have the Serbian defender available again for the start of the 2012/2013 campaign. "Vida won't be ready for going on the tour but hopefully he'll be ready for the start of the season," said Ferguson. "We sent him to a complex in Spain last week and he enjoyed it. It gave him a break mentally as it's not easy. "He's been the only one in the gymnasium in the last couple of months or so as we've been reasonably injury-free. He's not running, he's just been in the gym."
