Vale boss a possible successor to Hessenthaler

Sky Sports understands Port Vale boss Micky Adams is in the frame for the vacant manager's job at Gillingham. The Priestfield Stadium club are looking for a new man to take the reins after Andy Hessenthaler stood down following the failure to reach the League Two play-offs. And Adams, who spent four years with Gillingham at the beginning of his playing career, has emerged as one of the candidates. The 50-year-old guided Vale to a top-half finish in League Two this season and that was despite suffering a 10-point penalty for entering administration. It was an impressive achievement and has not gone unnoticed at Gillingham, who took just one point off Vale this season. Adams also recently confessed it had been a 'difficult season' with Vale amid the club's financial struggles.
