Paul Jewell has confirmed that veteran midfielder Lee Bowyer will not have his contract extended this summer at Ipswich Town.
The 34-year-old moved to Portman Road last year on a free transfer from Birmingham City and has gone on to make 24 starts with a further five appearances from the bench.
Bowyer had previously stated that he would like to stay at Portman Road, but Jewell has decided not to offer another 12-month deal as he looks to assemble a younger squad.
Jewell has nevertheless paid tribute to Bowyer for his attitude and wished him well for the future.
"He is a terrific lad and a terrific pro," said Jewell.
"He has been great around the place, especially with the young lads. He has a good career ahead of him coaching as he has terrific knowledge and he is a real good guy and good role model for young players.
"Whatever he does, he wants to win. He wants to continue playing. I am sure there won't be a shortage of takers for him.
"He goes with our best wishes, but we are going down a bit of a younger route."
