But Jewell decides Sonko has no future at Portman Road

Tommy Smith has been offered a new contract at Ipswich but Ibrahima Sonko has been told he has no future at Portman Road. Twenty-two-year-old Smith started his career at Ipswich and manager Paul Jewell is confident the defender will remain at the club next season. But Jewell has decided not to retain the services of centre-back Sonko, who only joined Ipswich on a free transfer in the summer. "We've offered Tommy a deal and his agent phoned me to say he's pretty certain that it will get sorted soon," Jewell told the club's official website. "I don't know the details of the offer but I'm hopeful that one will get done and I'm pleased to get Tommy signed up. "I spoke to Sonks' and we won't be renewing his contract. He's been a terrific lad around the place, had a good influence on a lot of people and did a really good job for us at the start of the season when we were struggling for a centre-half. "But I just felt it was time for us to try something different and I wish him all the best for the future."
