Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has hinted Norwich midfielder Wes Hoolahan could gatecrash the squad for Euro 2012.

Hoolahan, who won his only cap for his country four years ago, has impressed for the Canaries this season in the Premier League.

The playmaker's performances have been noted by Trapattoni and his coaching team and he admits he has spoken to assistant Marco Tardelli about the 29-year-old.

"I have spoken to Marco about him, he has been fantastic."

"I have spoken to Marco about him, he has been fantastic," Trapattoni is quoted as saying in The Sun.

Option

"This is not a campaign for too many young players but Hoolahan is not young.

"He played well in the last game I saw and we will consider this option."

Trapattoni also revealed he is not relishing the job of cutting down his squad down to 23 for the finals.

"We have 27 or 28 players," added Trapattoni.

"Those players who do not make it, I will not forget them for the next campaign. But we have to decide the best for now."
