Wolves boss Terry Connor will retain Roger Johnson as skipper for the 'foreseeable future' despite his on-field clash with Wayne Hennessey.
Johnson was involved in an aggressive altercation with the Wolves keeper in last weekend's 3-2 defeat at home to Bolton and the Wolves crowd were vocal in backing the popular Hennessey.
The incident represented the latest low point in a woeful season for Johnson, but Connor is standing by the Wolves captain - for now.
"Roger is captain for the foreseeable future," said Connor.
But, when asked if he may later change his decision, he admitted: "Yes I could."
Johnson replaced long-serving midfielder Karl Henry as captain following his summer arrival from Birmingham.
Poor form
But the decision was seen as an unpopular one in the dressing room, and problems began to mount for Johnson when his own form suffered.
The 28-year-old was briefly dropped by Mick McCarthy in December and again found himself out of the team when Connor took the reins in February.
Johnson was then disciplined after turning up for training the worse for wear after a 5-0 defeat at Fulham.
Connor held separate talks with Johnson and Hennessey at the start of the week in an attempt to bring this latest matter to a close.
He added: "I spoke to them really just to make sure everything is as it should be.
"We put it to bed at half-time but it would have been remiss of me not to make sure everything was as it should be between the players.
"Neither meeting lasted very long. They were done and dusted quickly.
"I just wanted to make sure that they were comfortable with each other and they are."
