Hull City captain Jack Hobbs will miss the start of next season after being ruled out of action for eight months with a serious knee injury.
The defender hobbled off during Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Coventry and scans have since revealed a ruptured cruciate ligament.
Hobbs is expected to need surgery and faces a battle to play again this year.
"It is estimated that Jack's rehabilitation will take between six and eight months," the club reported on its official website.
The news is a major blow for Hull as Hobbs has established himself as a key player in Nick Barmby's side since arriving from Leicester last summer.
