Clubs monitoring midfield ace

Sky Sports understands that Middlesbrough will face a battle to hang onto Nicky Bailey if they fail to get promoted this season. Bailey has been one of Boro's key performers this season, playing a leading role in their battle for promotion. The former Charlton Athletic midfielder was signed by Gordon Strachan during his brief tenure with Boro. But it is under Tony Mowbray that Bailey has excelled as he was switched from his usual attacking midfield role to one of an anchor man. Bailey has adapted his game so well that his performances have been attracting attention from several Premier League clubs. Swansea, Blackburn and West Bromwich Albion are all believed to be monitoring the situation of Bailey, whose contract with Middlesbrough expires next year. Boro will be keen to keep Bailey, who has emerged as one of their key men this term, but their financial situation means that they could struggle to turn down bids for him - if they fail to get back to the Premier League this May.
