Sky Sports sources understand Rangers rejected a bid from West Brom for Steven Naismith last week.
A move to West Brom has been mooted for a while for Naismith due to Rangers' financial problems with the club resigned to losing some of their top stars in the wake of their fall into administration.
Rangers boss Ally McCoist admitted last week he was in the dark over West Brom's interest in Naismith, while his Baggies counterpart Roy Hodgson played down talks of a move.
However, it is understood West Brom lodged a bid for the Scotland international last week only to see to their offer rejected by Rangers.
The 25-year-old, who joined Rangers from Kilmarnock in 2007, is under contract at Ibrox until 2015 and McCoist would be reluctant to lose the versatile forward.
Naismith is currently recovering from a ruptured cruciate ligament injury he picked up in October with the player hoping to be fit for the start of next season.
