United boss feels defender has been more consistent this season

Sir Alex Ferguson has praised the improved performances of Jonny Evans this season as the defender establishes himself in the Manchester United team. The Northern Ireland international has been among United's regulars this season, starting 21 league games as others around him have struggled with injuries. His prolonged run in the side has even yielded his first senior goal for the club, adding to the four netted for Sunderland, Royal Antwerp and Northern Ireland. Despite Phil Jones and Chris Smalling both being available for selection against Fulham on Monday, Ferguson is likely to stick with Evans in central defence. "He's playing regularly and I think that helps," said Ferguson. "He is still a young player of course and when they get runs of games it helps with their consistency. "His partnership with Rio has been very good. A lot of it has to do with Rio actually because he's really helped Jonny. "Jonny's always had terrific ability and it's good to see he's in consistent form."
