Manchester City youngsters Karim Rekik and Luca Scapuzzi have linked up with Portsmouth on initial month-long loan deals.

Dutch defender Rekik, 17, joined City in the summer after coming through the youth system at Feyenoord and 20-year-old Italian forward Scapuzzi has made two appearances for City, as well as nine on loan for Oldham earlier this season.

Manager Michael Appleton, who has lost a host of key players since Pompey went into administration last month, is pleased to have boosted his threadbare squad.

He told the club's official website: "Karim can play at left-back or as a left-sided centre-half. He's comfortable on the ball and has the right temperament to be at a club like Manchester City.

"Luca is a good footballer who can play out wide or up front. He's already got Football League experience at Oldham."

Portsmouth have also extended the loan of West Brom midfielder Scott Allan for another month.

Allan has impressed since arriving at Fratton Park in February and Appleton had previously made it clear that he wanted to keep him for the rest of the season.

Portsmouth have to take it on a month-by-month basis due to their financial situation and Allan will now stay with the club until April at least.
