Eric Abidal: Barcelona defender has sent his best wishes to Fabrice Muamba

Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has sent his best wishes to Fabrice Muamba and his family.

The health of both France international Abidal and Bolton midfielder Muamba has been in the spotlight in recent days.

Abidal is set to undergo a liver transplant in the coming weeks while Muamba is recovering at the London Chest Hospital following his cardiac arrest during Saturday's FA Cup match against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

The 32-year-old Abidal had a tumour removed from his liver last season but went on to lift the UEFA Champions League just two months later as Barca defeated Manchester United in the final at Wembley.

He posted a message on social networking site Facebook which read: "Fabrice Muamba - wholeheartedly with you and your family!"

Muamba's condition has improved significantly since Saturday and the hospital confirmed on Monday night he was able to recognise his family and respond appropriately to their questions.
