Accrington have signed Wigan defender Rob Kiernan on loan until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 and Under-21 level and has previously enjoyed loan spells with Yeovil, Bradford, Wycombe and Kilmarnock.
The youngster joined up with his team-mates on Friday and could make his debut against Northampton on Saturday, pending clearance from the Football League.
Kiernan said: "I can't wait. I'm looking forward to my first game and getting going. Hopefully we can get three points and do well.
"I think the gaffer's been watching me for a while in a few reserve games and with Ireland and spoke to Roberto Martinez to see if I could come down and play a few games.
"I've been on loan a few times before so I know what's expected. It's a big step up compared to reserve football and it's so important to get three points. I know what to expect."
