Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton is hoping to keep West Bromwich Albion midfielder Scott Allan at Fratton Park for the rest of the season.
Allan, who only joined West Brom from Dundee United in the January transfer window, linked up with Pompey on an initial month-long loan in February.
The 20-year-old has started four Championship games for troubled Portsmouth and Appleton is eager to retain his services.
"He's a player we were following when I was assistant manager at West Brom," Appleton said in the Birmingham Mail.
"It's a shame he's a West Brom player, long term. But I think in the short term, hopefully, we can keep hold of him until the end of the season and he can have some effect on what happens to Portsmouth Football Club from now until then.
"Because of the situation we're in, we will just have to continue the loan month by month."
Appleton also has midfielder George Thorne on loan from West Brom, while Baggies full-back Joe Mattock also took in a stint on the South Coast earlier in the season.
