Nile Ranger, Manny Smith and Federico Macheda have been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association in relation to comments made on Twitter.
Ranger plays for Newcastle United and Smith is employed by Walsall, while Macheda is currently on loan at QPR from Manchester United.
"The charge is that the players acted in a way which was improper and/or brought the game into dispute," read a statement on the FA's official website.
"It is further alleged that the breach included a reference to a person's or persons' sexual orientation."
Each player has until 4pm on Wednesday 29th February to respond to the charge.
