Germany will be without captain Philipp Lahm for Wednesday's friendly with France in Bremen due to a knee injury.

The German Football Association (DFB) on Sunday night confirmed the full-back had been suffering for the past week with a problem with his right knee.

Lahm, who played for Bayern Munich in Sunday's Bundesliga win over Schalke, has opted to remain in Munich for treatment after consulting with doctors.

The DFB confirmed Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender is a major doubt for the game after going off injured in Sunday's win over Hannover.

Bender suffered a suspected broken nose in a clash with Mame Biram Diouf.

He was taken to hospital and will undergo further tests on Monday before a decision is made over his fitness.
