Scott Dann believes Blackburn have the players to stay in the top flight

Blackburn defender Scott Dann insists he is over the worst of his injury problems and is now ready to repay manager Steve Kean following his big-money move.

The 24-year-old joined the Lancashire outfit in a £7.7million deal from Birmingham in August, but as soon as he recovered from a calf injury, the player ruptured his right testicle in the process of scoring his first Rovers goal against West Brom in December.

The big centre-back has featured in each of the club's last four matches and Dann is adamant that he is now over the worst of his problems and is ready to help the club in their fight against relegation.

"A few unfortunate injuries means it's taking me longer to get back up to my level," Dann told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"It was an important game against West Brom and I overstretched and clashed with the goalkeeper Ben Foster.

"I was in severe pain and couldn't run, but I was determined to carry on despite knowing that something was badly wrong.

"Our physio, Dave Fevre, is very experienced and he's never seen an injury like it before.

"And it's even more painful than it sounds. It was not a pretty sight.

"The injury was frustrating as I wanted to be playing every week and helping keep the team up.

"We've been down at the bottom but we honestly think we have the players to stay up."

And Dann believes the home fans can play a huge part in keeping the club in the Premier League by staying behind their under-fire manager and the club's owners, Venky's.

"The fans have been protesting against the owners and the manager rather than the players," he said.

"You just have to shut it out of your mind, but it hasn't affected us as much as people think and in the last four or five weeks - especially since we won at Manchester United with a really young team - the fans have really been getting behind us.

"I hope they can do that until the end of the season and that we can stay up."
