Norway coach Egil Olsen has warned John Carew he will not win an international recall if he does not play for West ham.
The 32-year-old striker has been omitted from the squad to face Northern Ireland on February 29th, and has been left out of the last few squads.
Carew has not featured for West Ham since starting the FA Cup third round clash against Sheffield Wednesday on January 8th.
And Olsen has urged the former Valencia marksman to switch clubs so that he has a chance to continue his international career.
"A fit John Carew is a big plus for the national team," said Olsen.
"He is a rare breed, and we'd like to bring him along, but he has to play more often for that to happen.
"From what I have read and heard, he must switch clubs."
Carew's agent Per A Flod refused to be drawn on the player's future but did confirm his contract would expire this summer.
"I do not really speak on such matters, but it is simple: his contract expires this summer," he told VG Nett.
