Nigel Reo-Coker believes his Bolton team-mates have got to show more fighting spirit if they are to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
His side slipped to second bottom in the table following their 2-1 defeat at home by fellow strugglers Wigan last time out.
Bolton have a break from the league to face Millwall in the FA Cup this weekend before taking on table topping Manchester City and Chelsea.
And Reo-Coker called on the rest of the Bolton side to prove they have got what it takes to survive in the top flight.
"I am not going to sugar coat it," said the Bolton skipper. "We let ourselves down big time and we are in a relegation fight.
"It was a local derby and we needed that extra passion. But we have to be honest to ourselves and say we lacked that bit of grit. We need to produce against the teams around us."
