Tisdale hails Grecians spirit

Paul Tisdale hailed his Exeter players' spirit and "two moments of brilliance" after a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Jermaine Johnson opened the scoring for Wednesday with a great strike from the edge of the penalty area, but Billy Jones levelled with a superb free-kick and David Noble handed Exeter the win with another stunning free-kick with six minutes remaining. "The performance was what we needed to produce," Tisdale said. "We can't sit back and hope for any luck or mistakes, we just had to play 100 per cent and flat out with energy and purpose and we did that. But I haven't seen anything but that for the last month or two. "We played against a very effective team and sometimes when you play against a team like that, it forces you into a man to man defensive job and helps to focus the mind. You knuckle down and do the basics and it was a game for sheer basics. "On top of that, we had two fantastic free-kicks. I've been telling the players for a long time to put it over the wall and they did the opposite of what I asked and scored, so fair play to them. It was two moments of brilliance. "Their goal was a fantastic goal was well. They were three fantastic goals and indicative how the game can turn."
