Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger faces a spell on the sidelines after tearing ankle ligaments.
Schweinsteiger suffered the injury during Bayern's 2-0 win over Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday night.
The midfield schemer lasted just 17 minutes of the game before he was forced to limp off and scans have confirmed Bayern's worst fears.
"We will have to make a prediction as to when Bastian will be able to train or play again at a later date," said Bayern's club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt.
It seems likely Schweinsteiger will miss Bayern's Champions League clash later this month as well as Germany's upcoming friendly international against France.
