Stoke have announced that they have appealed against the red card picked up by Robert Huth during Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Sunderland.
The German defender was dismissed for a challenge on David Meyler, with referee Martin Atkinson deeming his tackle to be reckless.
Potters boss Tony Pulis was left fuming at the decision, with it his opinion that Meyler conned the officials into making a snap judgement.
He declared in the immediate aftermath of the game that he planned to contest the sending off, with photographic and video evidence ready to support their case.
Pulis is refusing to waver in his belief that Huth was harshly treated and is set to take his fight to the Football Association.
"We have studied all the evidence again and are convinced there was no intent," he told the club's
official website.
"Robert was actually trying to pull out of the challenge."
Difficult
Fellow defender Jonathan Woodgate has also backed Huth's cause and is hoping the decision will be overturned by the relevant authorities.
"I never thought it was a sending off in a million years to be honest with you, and having spoken to Huthy in the dressing room, neither did he," said Woodgate.
"He was in full control of his body when he went in for the tackle, there was no malice there whatsoever.
"It's hugely disappointing for us because it put us in a difficult position for the rest of the game, but I am sure that if we make an appeal, then the referee will admit that he got that certain decision wrong."
