Nigel Clough is delighted that Derby County were able to keep Paul Green at the club during the transfer window.
The 28-year-old midfielder had been linked with a move away from Pride Park throughout January.
The Republic of Ireland international is out of contract in the summer, but Derby decided to keep Green and risk losing him on a free at the end of the season.
Green was not included in the squad for Tuesday's 3-2 defeat at Barnsley, in case he was needed to travel to another club, to complete a deal.
However with the deadline now past, Green could return to the team for Sunday's East Midlands derby clash with Nottingham Forest.
Clough told the club's official website: "It was impossible to include Paul in the squad in case something did come up.
"If something had come up after we had played Barnsley, we would have had only around an hour and that wasn't going to be long enough to get things done or even react from our point of view.
"We're happy to have Paul with us for the rest of the season and he will come into contention again for the weekend."
