There may not have been as much money spent during the January transfer window as in years gone by, but Deadline Day proved to be typically dramatic as a number of late deals were pushed through.
Queens Park Rangers led the way on Tuesday by bringing in a pair of proven centre-forwards to boost their survival hopes, with Bobby Zamora coming in from Fulham and Frenchman Djibril Cisse recruited from Lazio.
Strikers were certainly in demand elsewhere with the arrival of Rangers' Croatia international Nikica Jelavic at Everton signalling the end of Louis Saha's Goodison Park career.
Saha has been offered a new start at Tottenham after Harry Redknapp gave the injury-troubled forward, 34 this summer, a short-term deal.
Negotiations between White Hart Lane and the Merseyside club also allowed midfielder Steven Pienaar to return to the Toffees on loan a year after leaving them.
Redknapp also allowed Sebastien Bassong to head to Wolves on loan and Vedran Corluka sealed a temporary switch to Bayer Leverkusen, while an agreement was reached with Lokomotiv Moscow over the sale of striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Zamora's replacement at Craven Cottage was Stuttgart's Pavel Pogrebnyak, who arrived on a six-month deal, while Portsmouth starlet Ryan Williams also joined Fulham.
Chelsea completed a swoop for Kevin de Bruyne before letting the Belgian midfielder return to Genk on loan, while Patrick Bamford made the move from Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge.
Sunderland signed Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge and Wolfsburg's former Liverpool man Sotirios Kyrgiakos on loan to bolster their defence.
Blackburn were also busy as they brought in former Halmstad winger Marcus Olsson, the twin brother of Rovers' Swedish wide man Martin, and QPR defender Bradley Orr.
Hired
Arsenal signed 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder Thomas Eisfeld and allowed Japanese midfielder Ryo Miyaichi, 19, to go on loan to Bolton.
Manchester City hired Roma's 32-year-old Chilean midfielder David Pizarro on loan but lost former Switzerland Under-17 captain Frederic Veseli, 19, to near neighbours United.
West Brom signed defender Liam Ridgewell from Birmingham and also struck a deal to land Keith Andrews from Blackburn on a free transfer.
Bolton belatedly confirmed the signing of Watford striker Marvin Sordell for an undisclosed fee, subject to clearance.
Swansea signed Curtis Obeng from Wrexham for an undisclosed fee after the defender penned a three-and-a-half-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.
One player who dominated the headlines throughout January, Carlos Tevez, ended up staying at Manchester City, although he could still move to Russia or South America, where clubs work to different transfer guidelines.
Of the Premier League clubs, only Stoke and Liverpool failed to sign anyone in January.
In the Championship there was late movement from West Ham, who not only won the chase for highly-rated Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard but also pulled off deals for Manchester United youngster Ravel Morrison and Ricardo Vaz Te from Barnsley.
