Waiting game for former Zenit star

Stuttgart striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has successfully passed his medical with Fulham and is now waiting for his work permit. The 28-year-old, who is out of contract with the Bundesliga club at the end of the season, has been a long-term target of Cottagers boss Martin Jol. And with Bobby Zamora reported to on the brink of signing for West London rivals QPR, the Russia international is seen as his ideal replacement. If all goes according to plan, Pogrebnyak is likely to join Fulham on loan until the end of the season and the club will then decide whether to sign him as a free agent if he impresses. The player, who has scored eight goals in 30 internationals, has a history of knee trouble but successfully underwent his medical on Monday. Pogrebnyak is best known for his his time at Russian club Zenit St Petersburg where his goals led Dick Advocaat's side to UEFA Cup success back in 2008.
